About BE SAFE

In 2007, the AIDS Action Committee (AAC) launched a multi-year, collaborative, systems change youth prevention initiative called BE SAFE. This initiative synergizes the strengths, talents, and resources of six partner organizations including:

AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts,
The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC)
,

The City School,

The Community Advocacy Program of CCHERS,

The Dimock Center,

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts

BE SAFE’s Vision:Healthy transition into adulthood for all youth.

BE SAFE’s Mission:Change systems that serve youth by increasing the capacity of programs to support young people regarding the health issues they face.

We do this by:

  • Valuing and listening to youth voice; viewing young people as experts in their own lives
  • Leveraging existing resources by working in coalition
  • Helping to create safe environments where adults are knowledgeable, askable and approachable

BE SAFE provides tailored programming and capacity building to a network of eight Greater Boston out-of-school-time (OST) programs that work directly with youth, many of whom are at risk. BE SAFE has adopted a holistic, strengths-based approach across the issues of:

BE SAFE Components

  • BE SAFE Partners
  • Training and Consultation for out-of-school time programs
  • Advisory Board Committee
  • Youth Leadership Board
  • External Evaluation Team
